How many calls go unanswered, and what are they worth?

Add your own numbers: how many calls you get a month, how many go unanswered, how many in every 100 become customers and what a customer is worth. The sum runs in your browser and nothing is stored.

The ones that ring out, during your hours and after them.

Your close rate. If you don’t know it, keep it low.

Professional costs £129/month: it pays for itself with 1 customer a month.

Calls × % unanswered × % that become customers × average value. Worked out in your browser.

How it works

  • The formula

Calls a month × % unanswered × % that become customers × average customer value. The result is what the calls you can’t pick up today could be worth each month.

  • Using your close rate

Not every call is a sale: some are suppliers, some are existing customers and some are just questions. So the sum uses your close rate instead of counting every call as a customer.

  • Where to find your numbers

Your phone’s call log, your network’s app or your phone system’s portal usually shows missed calls. If not, note down the calls you couldn’t answer for a week and multiply by four.

  • An example to start with

The starting numbers are only an example so you can see the sum, with a deliberately low close rate (10%). Swap them for yours and the result is your business’s own.

Ways to answer more calls

  • During your hours

Forward the calls you can’t take to another phone in the team, and share the busiest hours between a few people.

  • Out of hours

A good voicemail greeting helps people leave their details. An AI receptionist goes further: it answers, takes the details and sends you a summary.

    Write your greeting

  • In writing

Plenty of customers would rather message. WhatsApp and your website chat catch those enquiries while you’re with another customer.

Questions

How many calls does a business miss?

It varies a lot by business, sector and time of day, so this calculator doesn’t give a general figure: it uses yours. The most reliable way to know is your network’s missed call log, or noting them down for a week.

Why doesn’t it count every missed call as a customer?

Because it isn’t one. Some calls come from suppliers, existing customers or people who are only asking a question. The close rate keeps only the ones that would end in a sale.

What close rate should I use?

Yours: out of every 100 people who call asking for something, how many end up buying. If you haven’t measured it, start low. The calculator starts at 10% to stay on the cautious side.

Are the numbers I enter stored?

No. The sum runs in your browser and isn’t sent anywhere.
